Jon, My husband and I have been watching you every Sunday morning,we ill that we can learn more listening to you and other ministers. Would God look at that the same way as going to church or should we also find a congregation that we fill good with. Please reply back and let me know your thought on this. Thank You and God Please You. Terry Walter

All other things being equal, it is far better to be part of a community than to try to practice faith alone. Whether things are equal in your case, circumstances and local friends will have to tell you. If the community you left is not a safe place, ask around for clues to a better one.

Dr Pauline,
I am writing from beautiful Cape Town, South Africa. I am actually looking for more bookscommentaries that you wrote with a few other authors. I am busy reading acommentary on the book of Samuel. I picked up that there are other similar books on Matthew etc. I hope you will remember what I am referring to. I have found the Samuelcommentary very enlightening and would like more of thesecommentaries. How can I get a copy?
God Bless

Jon,
Considering the recent call for revival and reformation, I wanted to input 2 SOP quotes:
1. The first sentence from GC CH 27 Modern Revivals-"Wherever the word of God has been faithfully preached, results have followed that attested its divine origin."
2."The ministers must be converted before they can strengthen their brethren. They should not preach themselves, but Christ and His righteousness. A reformation is needed among the people, but it should first begin its purifying work with the ministers."
1 T 469
Addressing both items:.--"It has often been presented to me that there should be less sermonizing by ministers acting merely as local pastors of churches, and that greater personal efforts should be put forth. Our people should not be made to think that they need to listen to a sermon every Sabbath. Many who listen frequently to sermons, even though the truth be presented in clear lines, learn but LITTLE. Often it would be more profitable if the Sabbath meetings were of the nature of a Bible class study. Bible truth should be presented in such a simple, interesting manner that all can easily understand and grasp the principles of salvation." EV p 348
SDA are repeating the error that the JEWS did..bcoming fanatic insubordinate gainsayers (ROM 10:2 & 21)
I see the problem is not only doctrinal but HOMILETICAL.
I notice the sermon trend for SDA is topical rather than expository and the sermons seem to be getting shorter with the worship service extras crowding out sermon time.
As Dean of dept at religion at Loma Linda...do you have any say/input regarding the inept homiletics of most pastors?

Sir:
How do I purchase: 1. your bookcommentary on Revelation of St. John & 2. Your translation of same. I apologise for not detecting the "how" on your website, but thecomputer still confuses. Thank you.

Not clear what you mean by “book commentary.” The closest thing to that is the Explore Revelation CD series offering in the shopping part of this web site. Look under Jon Paulien's materials.

Hi Jon,
I last sunday, I wactched your exposition of Rev 6 on Hope Channel, after which I saw a publication that also explains Rev 6-8 which said that rapture will happen on 21 May 2011 using some calculations that are unclear, some of your explanation and his tally. please can you shed more light on this?

I am not familiar with this publication you mention. I do not support current date setting schemes for a variety of reasons I have published in the past.

I enjoy your programs on hope channel and I would like to ask a question which arose while you discussed Rev 7 about the 144000.You said that the 144000 and the great multitude were the same group of people. This you explained by saying that John head the number(i.e 144000) and when he looked,he saw a great multitude, meaning the grate multitude were the 144000.
Now when we go to Rev 14 John talks about the 144000 and in verse 1 he says that he looked and beheld the 144000.My question is why do we see John here after seeing the event, mentions the 144000 by number and not by saying the great multitude. This tells me that in chapter 7 there were two groups of people i.e the 144000 and the great multitude.God bless!!!

Thoughtful comment. I have not examined this in detail, but scholars have noted that in chapter 14, John uses the word 144,000 but describes it in terms of the great multitude. But in chapter 19 the great multitude re-appears and is described in language reminiscent of the 144,000 in chapter 7. If that is so it would illustrate further the interchangeability of the two entities. Furthermore, the 144,000 is described in Rev 14:1-2 in terms of Joel 2:32, where the term "remnant" is used. The same group is called "the saints" in 14:12. These and other observations lead me to believe that the Book of Revelation uses many terms for the one people of God at the end of time.

I read your posting on Rev. 22 about the "healing of the nations" and how you explained what it could very likely mean, and was touched at the story within that reading as well, then at the end where your little prayer was asking for the Lord to give one the forgiveness needed I feltcompelled to forward that story and prayer to the many women in the women's ministry department of which I am the leader. I was surprised that I was not able to copy it to include it in a letter to those women. With something so beautiful and inspiring, I wondered why you wouldn't want to make that available to everyone possible. Not every one has acomputer and not everyone has the financial ability to purchase. I'm not being sarcastic, but perhaps there are reasons that I am not familiar with. Please reply to this.

Eileen,
Thank you for your kind comments and also your concern. I take it you are referring to the daily devotional and the archive of such on the site. I am not aware of any intention to prevent people from being able to download them, but I would have to defer to the webmaster for the details. There may be technical issues involved. I think one can always copy and paste from the posted devotional of the day.

Dear Mr. Jon,
I tape all your and Graeme's show "Revelation." I love the show and watch it faithfully. I even save them and replay them. I am a faithful Christian and the "Revelation" has taught me show much about the book. Your and Graeme's interpretation is very easy to grasp and understand. I am very thankful and blessed and praise the Lord each and everyday!! God bless you, Pauline and Graeme.

Dear Jon,
I really enjoy your interpretations of the book of Revelation. On the last show I watched you discussed the "End Time Message." I have to share with you that I have written a book that has all of the things you said this message would contain. God gave me the assignment to proclaim the message that is in this book. Please do not ignore or discount this message. So far I have contacted several popular TV preachers in hopes to get this message out to the most people the fastest and most effective way possible. I have been totally ignored. God put it on my heart to contact you. The name of the book is "The True Purpose and Meaning of Life: Our Journey to Fulfillment" written under the pen name Jain Dao. It is available on Amazon and there is a website with an ebook version. I cannot overstress the urgency and importance. Thank you for your time.

Dear Jon
enjoying your series on hope channel and appreciate the opportunity tocommunicate with you. I have a question regarding the introduction to the seven trumpets why is their silence in heaven and what is the significance of the Angel throwing the censer filled with fire to the earth interrupting the incense burning with the prayers of the saints? Seems to me that something has changed, thunder lightning and an earthquake follow, are these not signs of Gods anger and judgment of the earth and the end of intersession? They seem to parallel the seven plaques. If intersession is over then we must be talking about the same time period. Before the trumpets blow we have a chapter of assurance just as we have before the seven plaques. By the time we get to the fifth trumpet God's true followers have been sealed. Is it possible that John is giving us two pictures of the same event to make a point of its significance.Does not the fourth through six seals parallel this same time period for a third look. After all this time period will be the most difficult time period the world will have ever known. We will need great faith and understanding to get through it. Knowing what iscoming will build our faith, resolve and motivate us to prepare ourselves. What do you think? May God bless you and your work.

About a month ago my husband and I visited a SDA church in Killeen, TX. I believe it is a perfect example of "healing of the nations". There were people from many different cultures there. They seemed to get along very well. It was the most cheerful and spiritual church I have been to. Now is the time to let down the barriers. It brings such joy to everyone.

Hi, I have looked over your vast website, but have been unable to find where you reveal the identity of the sea & land beasts of Revelation 13.
I know these identifications must be here somewhere; can you please direct me to the page(s) where you reveal their identities? Thank you, and God bless.

Dr. Paulien, back in 2004 I contacted you as I was writing a book. At that time you were the head of religious studies at Andrews University. Myron Edmonds, a former student of yours and my nephew had referred me to you. I have since finished the book and would like to share an electronic copy of it with you via the email address: admin@armageddonheadquarterscom. Please confirm receipt of the book and an article concerning beast imagery of Revelation. I wecome your feedback and discussion. I will also post acomment on your blog in hopes you personally will respond. Thanks.

Pastor Pailien,
I just learnd as I was studieng for a future sermon on the rise of Islam and the fifth trumpet of Rev.9. I was shocked to learn that the mark of the Beast 666 is a sacride Holy number for there Quran. see universalunity.org And also that in there eschatological end time prophecies state that thecoming of there messiah,Imam al-Mahdi
and jesus as his prophet willcome to earth and bring peace and reign on earth bringing unity. those who dont recive the religion Islam will be beheaded by Jesus
See http://wwwal-islam.org/an-overview-of-mahdis-government-najimuddin-tabasi/title.htm especialy chapter 12.
Muslam Jesus will fight Dajjal, there version of Antichrist. To me it looks like Islams Jesus is Antichrist, Satan masquerading as Christ, for it is he that orders those who dont take the mark of the Beast to be Beheaded. What is your opinion on this? Thanks

I watched your presentation today, May 26, on Hope Channel via Direct TV Channel 368. I heard you speak about the problem you experienced with refereeing the ball game when you were in school wherein that man told you that your best wasn't good enough. How mistaken he really was! It seems that one thing you failed to realize when it occurred is that the man that told you that wasn't perfect either! He thought he was perfect but he was much further away from perfection than you were on that day and probably still is! What a big jerk to be in a position of teaching. I really enjoy listening to your presentations on Revelation and I am amazed that you can dig so far into each verse so thoroughly! I think you're the "Perfect" person for the job! Thank you for your wonderful presentations and your hard work, enthusiasm and zeal that is so evident to your audience! I praise God for you and your great work! Thank you very much, Floyd

I would love to hearcomments on this
which refer me to specific scriptures.
Constructive feedback is very hard to
find when brainstorming a subject, as
people tend to automatically reject ideas, which does not align with their personal view or doctrine.

Dear Pastor Paulien,
Thank you so much for your great teachings about the book of Revelation.
Question is---
1. The book of Revelation seems not to be in chapter order?
2. Is the beast of the book of Daniel the same as that described in the book of Revelation?
Reply to this
I'm so thankful you wrote this article on the battle of Armageddon. I do not
have the scholarly education you have, but I have understood that this battle is a spiritual battle and would be similar to the one which Elijah faced on Mt. Carmel, what Daniel's three friends faced on the Plain of Dura and the other battles between good and evil. That was a colossal showdown between good and evil...of who would be worshiped! I thoroughly enjoyed reading your research which brought a lot of enlightening things to mind. My thanks to you for sharing what you found, Mr. Paulien. A friend just shared your website so I'll do the same to pass on the wonderful articles. There are many of us who did not have the chance to study like you at Seminary so your website information and hard work are so appreciated. God Bless.

Does the Revelation studies have a work study that one can follow along with the CDs?

If you are speaking about the Revelation: Hope, Meaning and Purpose DVDs, yes there are printed materials that go deeply into each of the presentations. We are working with Advent Source in Lincoln, Nebraska to produce and market these materials. They are ideal for small group Bible study.

Pastor Jon, Our church is going through the DVD series, "Revelation: Hope, Meaning and Purpose." I have a question: I know the book of Revelation is full of symbolism. In your study on the 144,000, you referred to Revelation1:1 that the word signify means symbolic. In the Greek Lexicon the meaning is different. Where are you getting that it means symbolic? I have been studying in the Andrews Study Bible and they say there is an allusion to Dan. 2:28, 45. I have been asked this question and would you please explain it to me so I can better understand it. Thank you. Blessings...

There are many lexicons of varying quality. The "horse's mouth" of biblical Greek scholarship is Bauer/Arndt/Gingrich and Danker (its been decades in refinement). In the third English edition, page 920 it gives three possible meanings to the verb used in Rev 1:1: 1) "to make known, report, communicate," 2) "to intimate something with respect to the future," and 3) "to signify, provide an explanation for soemthing that is enigmatic." The fact that it occurs as part of an allusion to Daniel 2 (I helped write that part of the Andrews Study Bible) helps narrow the meaning to the kind of language used there, symbols with reference to the future. So the language of Revelation is modeled on the symbolic visions of Daniel. That inclines me to a symbolic interpretation for the 144,000.

Good day Dr. Paulien!
Thank you for sharing your insights of Revelation through books, dvds, magazine articles and tv. I have enjoyed your devotional on Revelation with my family. I have found your thoughts to be balanced and encouraging, inspiring hope and protecting against fanaticism.
I have a question I would like to put to you which I have thought over many times, looking at it from many angles prayerfully. Your perspective will be appreciated.
In Rev.1 we see Jesus walking amongst the 7 candlesticks which Jesus points out are the seven churches. In Rev.4 reference is made to 7 lamps of fire before the throne of God which is pointed out to be the 7 spirits of God. In Rev.5 reference is made to the Lamb having 7 horns & 7 eyes which is pointed out to us as being the 7 spirits of God.
Since the 7 branched lamp stand from the sanctuary is representative of Christ, The Light of the World, made from one solid piece of gold, each lamp being at the same level ( derived from the fact that it was fed from a single bowl filled by the 2 olive branches in the vision of Zechariah 4, no wasting of oil, gravity fed ) could it be that these are two different representations? Just as Christ said on the feast day, I am the Light of the world, yet in the sermon on the mount He said 'you are the light of the world', both statements are true, but first being the greater (the Source) the second being the lesser (expression through human instrumentalities).
Could one safely correlate the references in Isaiah 11v2 and 28v6 with a biblical explanation of the theme?
I also found an interesting statement in the SoP writings in which the author expresses that when man came from the Creator's hand every faculty of his mind was perfectly balanced and that for the full and proper use of any one faculty it required the full and proper use of every other faculty. (For the life of me I cannot find the statement using the EGW sw search engine. If anyone can help me find it again I will be most grateful). The author added that an imbalance in the faculties results in fanaticism. Would you agree with me that there is a connection here on the subject of the seven branched lamp stand? That the plan of redemption is to bring human instrumentalities back into alignment with Christ (temperate in all things, balanced - i.e. Christian perfection) that the light of God may be seen in us and shine out of us through His working in us to will and to do of His good pleasure?
I look forward to hearing from you on the subject.
Sincerely
Nic Bleeker
